Provincial COVID-related restrictions require us to limit ourselves to five cohorts of twenty-five people in our 9:30 AM and 11 AM services. Masks are still required. Mingle only within your cohort. We may open other spaces around the church as needed. Phone service is available at 9:30 AM. The 11 AM service will be live streamed.

Since our first service has lower attendance, we encourage that option. Those attending the second service must remain outside the building until first-service attenders have left and all areas have been sanitized. We encourage limited use of our washrooms.

For now, we will not have Sunday School, Children’s Church or nursery care. Access to the library and mailboxes will not be permitted as each cohort will be ushered out directly after each service. You are welcome to visit the library or check your mailboxes from Monday to Friday.

A NOTE FROM YOUR LEAD PASTOR

We get it: these are frustrating, confusing, anxious, and also dangerous times. We have multiple positive cases of COVID within our church community (though none that have been caused at in-person church gatherings). And we have many health professionals that are working increasingly to exhaustion, not to mention teachers and others. So let’s do what we can to mitigate the threat. But let’s take each day one at a time, stay calm, and act wisely.

Sometimes, historical perspective can help us interpret our current experience in a healthy way! We are not the first nor the last to face a devastating pandemic. So please take 10 minutes to read this article that came my way recently: “Martin Luther on How Not to Tempt God during a Plague” (https://villageanglican.church/village-blog-desmos/2020/3/30/martin-luther-on-how-not-to-tempt-god-during-a-plague). Luther’s thoughtful pastoral balance in responding to the plague as it ravaged his own city of Wittenberg resonates with me. Maybe with you as well?

Be blessed as you take things a day at a time (Barb keeps reminding us of that—thank you, Barb!), prayerfully doing what God is calling you to.

Pastor Walter

Dear SMBC Family,

Further restrictions have been decreed this week as Steinbach is now a Code Red region. This Sunday’s service (November 15, 2020) will be via live stream and phone only.

Our church continues to follow Manitoba’s COVID-19 guidelines.

We will provide another update on Friday. We are thinking of you all! Our loving God continues to have full access to each of us!
