Walter has been Lead Pastor at SMBC since 2009. He has a heart for the nations, with extensive international experience in teaching and pastoral ministry. Raised on Canada’s west coast, he and his German-born wife Anne have five adult children and six grandchildren with whom they love spending time.
Walter and Anne have focused much of their effort on connecting with people and practising hospitality. In fact, he completed his Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) in 2016 with a dissertation project titled “Improving Leadership Practice Through Home Hospitality.” Walter loves preaching, leading, and seeing others fulfill their God-given potential. He prioritizes involvements in the local community as well.
Outside of church ministry, camping, fishing, and keeping his yard and flower gardens green, colourful, and cleaned-up give Walter much-needed relaxation and satisfaction. Throw in a weekly round of golf or a Jets hockey game and Walter is “one happy camper”—by the grace of God!
